Read This!

I didn't think I would use this blog to recommend a book as there are so many blogs out there that do that already, but the other day I finished reading something that I just can't get out of my head.  Now, I read a hell of a lot.  My bookshelf almost bulges under the weight of all the reading material I have, some I've read only once, others that are dog eared through countless re-readings.  To me, nothing compares to the feeling of strolling through the local library, scouring the aisles for something that may keep you entertained, only to find yourself so engrossed that you lose all track of time.  That's exactly what happened to me.  This book, this little diamond, is one of the best books I have ever read in my entire life.

Ebby

When I was very young, my best friend in the whole wide world was a little boy named Ebby.  He was my age with short brown hair, big brown eyes, and he always wore a knitted yellow jumper, blue jeans and red wellington boots.  We'd run around playing hide and seek, dig holes in the garden or just sit chatting and singing for hours on end.  He was a cheeky thing and sometimes got me in to trouble with his wild escapades, but I didn't care.  I loved Ebby to death.  There was just one problem; I didn't realize that Ebby didn't exist.

A Lesson in Pantomime

Me in pantomime, looking fabulous.
Pantomime.  The great British tradition.  For many it conjures up images of overexcited children of all ages, cheering and booing and eating too many sweets.  But for a select few, the word "pantomime" brings forth memories of freezing cold dressing rooms, frantic costume changes and scrubbing custard pie goo out of your hair.  Every year at least one person asks, "Why do we keep doing this to ourselves?" and every year we come back for more.

Gamer Girl: Oh, The Memories...

"Oh, F.F.S, let ME do it!"
Being a Gamer Girl, you may have guessed that I spend an obscene amount of my time playing video games.  F.P.S's, R.P.G's, detective games, I love them all.  I couldn't possibly list my top ten games because, A, the list changes all the time depending on my mood, and, B, I couldn't limit it to just ten games.  So instead I am going to list my top ten memorable moments in gaming.  Coming up with this list wasn't easy as there are so many great moments in my video game history, but I have been able to limit them to the memories that had the most profound effect on me.

Talking To My (younger) Self

When I do manage to get some sleep (which is few and far between these days), I keep having the same dream.  Some how I manage to travel back in time and visit with my twelve year old self.  She's not the least bit surprised to see me, and we sit down and talk.  I try to advise her and steer her away from the wrong paths.  And this got me thinking; if I could really go back and talk to my younger self, what would I say to her?  I mean, me...?  I mean... oh, you know what I mean...

My Little Black Rain Cloud

The best way I can think of to describe depression is that it's kind of like a fluffy cloud that surrounds your entire being.  No one can see it or feel it, but it's always there.  Sometimes it's as thick as molasses and no one can reach through it.  Other times it's like a thin mist and even you forget it's there.  But it is there, just on the edge of your peripheral vision, waiting to make its presence know when you least expect it.  A bit like Jaws.
