Wonky Head & Lambada Lungs

Did you miss me?

You may or may not have noticed that I haven't exactly been on top blogging form of late.  For those very few of you who have taken the time to follow me (you lovely, lovely people x), I thought I'd better check in and let you know that I am still alive and give a little explanation...

The first and main reason is because my head has been wonky due to issues with My Little Black Rain Cloud.  My doctor decided to put me on a new course of "happy pills", and boy oh boy, have I been fun to be around.  One minute I'm as happy as Larry (whoever he is, smug git), the next I'm an emotional shipwreck.  (Not to mention the fact that I was, for want of a better term, stoned off my face for about a fortnight.  Staring at your hand for half an hour and insisting you can see noises isn't as fun as it sounds.  And I swear, for a brief period I actually thought I was the Lizard Queen!)

I'm gradually getting over that hurdle as my body adjusts to its new bombardment of chemicals.  The main problem at the moment is my severe lack of concentration.  I seem to have lost the ability to think for more than a few moments without getting distracted, usually by something shiny.  These are not good traits for someone who adores blogging, or for someone who is appearing in pantomime at the end of January.  I'm usually really good at learning lines and songs, but this year I haven't got a frickin' clue what's going on.  We could be doing "King Kong Tap Dancing On Ice" for all I know and I wouldn't notice.  I shouldn't have agreed to do it in the first place, but my conscience/overactive loyalty/love of panto/stupidity got the better of me.  Damn you to hell, wonky head!

Secondly, I've been proper poorly of the physical variety.  As I type this, I am coughing so hard I'm half expecting my lungs to leap out of my body and start doing the lambada on the keyboard.  Poor old Boyf was really rough a few of weeks ago, and he does love to share his germs.  After a brief spell of snot and achiness, I developed a cough to rival the cat with the worlds biggest hairball in its throat.  I'm knocking back the cough syrup like there's no tomorrow and no doubt irritating Boyf beyond belief with my constant hacking (although he is being very sweet about it, even going to the supermarket at 6 o'clock this morning to get much needed supplies).  Illness is only to be expected at this time of year, but it still makes me a grumpy bunny.

There are happy things to report though, so this isn't all doom and gloom.  Christmas wasn't quite as bad this year as previous years (although I still didn't get my White Christmas. Sulk.)  I said "Ta Ta" to Boyf Christmas Eve afternoon as he went on his obligatory mission to visit the parents.  I settled down to a Chinese takeaway, a bottle of cheap plonk and some stand-up comedy DVDs, still feeling sorry for myself that I was alone and couldn't afford to go out to commemorate celebrate Christmas Eve, but content in my own little bah-humbug kind of way.  At half two in the morning I was disturbed by a rustling noise outside my front door... and low and behold, my own little Christmas miracle occurred.  Boyf came back to me!  He walked however many miles in the freezing cold and pitch black so I wouldn't have to spend Christmas Day alone.  It was our first proper Christmas day together, and needless to say, I was a very happy A.
And so, you are now updated on my so-called life.  I am really, REALLY hoping that my normal blogging routine will return to some kind of normality in the not too distant future, if only for my sake because there is something so therapeutic about writing to strangers, and the gratification I feel towards those of you who regularly read what I write knows no bounds.

I hope you all have a fantastic New Year and an even better 2011.  And when the clock strikes twelve, maybe you'll spare a brief thought for the girl in the pink pyjamas who will no doubt be spending December 31st coughing up a storm, feeling thoroughly sorry for herself and looking forward to when she'll be blogging with avengeance.

Hope the new year is a happy one.

Cough remedies: just the standard, tea with honey and lemon.

Hope things brighten up soon on all fronts. Your writing doesn't reflect too much lack of focus, so I'm hoping your mental block with the play script will soon be a thing of the past. Good luck for 2011!

Honey and lemon really work. The honey is soothing and a mild antibiotic. The lemon cuts the mucus. Tea has a little caffeine to perk you up. It's all good!
Get well soon!
